Dr. Patrick Murphy

Dr. Patrick Murphy is a 1981 graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Murphy worked with the Gimbel Eye Center. At the same time, he started his Calgary practice and the satellite practice in Three Hills.

Dr. Murphy was the first Optometrist to receive hospital privileges as the clinic director for the Southern Alberta Sight Enhancement Clinic, a specialty clinic devoted to helping the low-visioned in conjunction with the CNIB. He provides this Low Vision specialty out of the clinic located at the Rockyview Hospital, and also for high needs patients that are seen at our Health Plus clinic.

Charity work has always been important to Dr. Murphy. He has been involved in many eye care projects in third world countries of Jamaica, Dominica, St. Lucia, and most recently (Jan 2001) in St. Maarten. He does the Jamaica project every year in November. He also contributes his time throughout the year doing talks to various clubs to educate people about vision loss and the care provided to help visually impaired people maintain independent lives.

Dr. Murphy completed six years on the council of the Alberta Association of Optometry (AAO), holding position of President from September 2002 - 2004.

Dr. Murphy has three children, Kyle who graduated from engineering in May 2005, and Braden, who is studying engineering in Halifax.

Dr. Murphy and Dr. Osiowy were married in 2004, at a beautiful ceremony in their newly built home in Okotoks. In March 2007, they had a beautiful healthy baby boy, Mitchell Murphy.

Dr. Bernadette Osiowy

Dr. Bernadette Osiowy is a 1991 graduate from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Following graduation, she gained valuable experience practicing in several offices in Ontario before returning west and settling in Calgary.

Dr. Osiowy started as an associate at the Three Hills satellite office in January 1993. She began working at HPO in the spring of 1993, gradually increasing patient care services and practice management involvement to full time by the fall. She continues to share her time between Three Hills and HPO. Dr. Osiowy became a partner at Health Plus and Three Hills Optometry in 1995.

Dr. Osiowy provides a specialty eye care service in the area of binocular vision therapy (for eye muscle and focus disorders). This area of vision care involves prescribing extensive series of at-home eye exercises to help strengthen eye muscle and focus problems. She has provided eye care visits for senior citizens or invalid patients at nursing homes in South Calgary and Three Hills area.

Dr. Osiowy held a two year position (1999 - 2001) on the Board of Directors of DEN (Doctor's Eye care Network), a BC/ AB full service Optometry group that focuses on high quality patient eye care services, staff training, business management programs, and product purchase discount programs for eyeglass, contact lens and equipment.

She is a member of the Fish Creek Lions Club and is the coordinator of their annual Charity Golf Tournament for the Lions Eye Bank. She also is the coordinator for the annual charity Casino fundraiser for Canadian Vision Care (which provides services to underdeveloped countries).

She most enjoys taking care of all staff coordination, including scheduling, policies, and many more things that make us work to our best potential as a team.

Dr. Osiowy enjoys long distance cycling and running. She completed her third marathon in October 2005 in Victoria, BC.

Dr. Andrea Saetre

Dr. Andrea Saetre graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2003. She spent her first year in practice in Hamburg, Germany at EuroEyes Laser Centre where she gained valuable experience in refractive eye surgery. She is also fluent in German and can provide eye examinations in both English and German.

Dr. Saetre has a strong commitment to community service. She has volunteered her time in numerous community and international vision care programs. She educated elementary school children in the importance of eye care during Vision Awareness Week, and contributed to the vision care of the underprivileged on a charity mission in Merida, Mexico.

Dr. Saetre has a special interest in pediatrics, and strives to provide the best in patient care. Not only does she believe in thorough eye examinations but also in patient education. As of this past year, Dr.Saetre has become a full-time associate at our practice.

Dr. Saetre is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and white water canoeing. In 1998, she completed her first half Ironman triathlon. Other interests include swing dancing and traveling.
